An academic program for students aged 6 to 9 years old.
This program is offered at our Orlando location.
The lower elementary Montessori program is typically designed for children aged 6 to 9 years old, encompassing grades 1 to 3 in a classroom school setting. This phase builds upon the foundational skills and principles introduced in the primary Montessori program. Below are some key characteristics and components of the lower elementary Montessori program.
Similar to the primary Montessori environment, lower elementary classrooms often consist of mixed-age groups. This allows for peer learning, mentorship, collaboration, and individualized instruction based on each child's unique development and learning pace.
The lower elementary Montessori curriculum is designed to be interdisciplinary, emphasizing connections across subjects like language, mathematics, science, history, geography, and the arts. Children engage in project-based learning that incorporates real-world applications and encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Montessori materials continue to play a vital role in the lower elementary classroom, but they become more advanced and challenging to align with the increasing cognitive abilities of the children. Materials are designed to promote abstract thinking, deeper exploration of concepts, and independent discovery.
Children in the lower elementary Montessori program are encouraged to conduct independent research, explore their interests, and pursue individual projects that align with their natural curiosity and passions. Teachers act as guides and facilitators, providing support and resources to fuel the children's exploration.
The lower elementary Montessori program places emphasis on fostering social skills such as collaboration, communication, conflict resolution, and empathy. Children engage in
group activities, discussions, and cooperative projects to develop teamwork and interpersonal relationships.
Lower elementary Montessori programs often incorporate outdoor education, nature exploration, and hands-on experiences to complement classroom learning. Field trips, outdoor play, gardening, and community service projects are common enriching experiences for children in this age group.
OMBA is an amazing school that helps children develop a love of learning while reaching their full potential. My child started here speaking no Spanish, and is excelling!

Montessori is much more than a school for my child and I. It’s a second home (if not a 1st) where she can freely be her and express herself in every aspect of hile also accepting and learning about others. That is thanks to the vision they carry of inclusion and freedom. I always recommend OMBA bc there’s something special about a school tailored to your child’s needs and that the child begs to be there bc they feel love and in a great environment. I could go in and on but in a few words, OMBA is worth the drive and investment in my child’s life!
